Author FAQ

How do I participate?
Pick 1–2 paragraphs (no more than 10-12 lines) to post. We want them to be quick peeks, not long excerpts. It can be a work in progress (WIP) or something you've already published. Post the snippet to your blog! Only 1 snippet, per blog, per name! Please update your content each week you participate. If you sign up but do not update your blog with a new snippet by 8am on the day of the event, you will be deleted from the list.

What kind of material can I post for the blog hop?
The excerpt must be from a work that fits in the boomer lit genre, which means it must focus on boomer characters or issues faced by boomers today, not nostalgia or coming of age set in the 50s and 60s.'

For the excerpt on your site, you may post erotica, but only among consenting adults (over 18). No rape, incest, or pedophilia. No hate or racist material. We reserve the right to delete links to any sites that post material in violation of these guidelines.

How do I sign up?
Use the sign-up form: Your Link Title can be your blog title, your name, or your book title. Your URL is your blog web address. Be sure your Boomer Lit Friday post is the top post on Friday, or link to the specific post's url.

Every Monday a new sign-up form will go up. Submit your information to the list. The list will remain open until Thursday at 11:00pm (EST). It's on a first come, first serve basis. By adding your information to the list, you agree to follow the rules of the hop.

Do I have to link to other contributors?
No, but we strongly encourage you to hop around to the other participants’ blogs, see what they’re sharing for that week, and leave them an encouraging word. A link back to this blog from your post is recommended to help spread the word of the hop. The more people who participate, the more readers we can reach!

When is my post required to be live?
Please be sure your sneak peek post is live by 8:00am (ET) Friday morning. If it is not live by then, you will be deleted from the participant list. Most blogging sites have the ability to schedule ahead of time. Please take advantage of that feature so you aren't scrambling in the morning or the middle of the night.

How can I promote onTwitter?
Our hashtag is #BoomerLitFriday or #BLF if you’re pressed for space.

How can I promote on Facebook and the other social networks?
Promote the same way you promote any blog post, using a link to the specific post on your blog. You can also post the link to this site.

Can I post a longer excerpt?
No, doing so will cause your name to be deleted from the list.

  1. I don't blog about what I am writing. I write (non-fiction) for a couple of websites for pay, help my grandchildren write and edit an online magazine, and work with a literary not-for-profit as a volunteer board member. I've also self-published an ebook which I have promoted on Facebook and Twitter. But I don't blog about the fiction I work on, so I can't supply a link. I can post a snippet/excerpt though. Is this possible without a blog? At some point, I may be able to see the advantage of blogging about what I'm writing, but at this point, I just need to spend time on the writing and not blogging.

    1. Susan, you need a blog or web page to post the snippet. Then you link to that post. The blog hop is an opportunity for readers to discover you. If you can link to your snippet, then you can participate. Hope that helps!

  2. It would be helpful if an e mail address would be sufficient in addition to a blog even if it can't have a link. Would Linked-In work? I am like Susan Hoskins Miller and have no time to blog while writing. I have several works in progress and believe my finished first novel of a WIP trilogy titled Deadly Fashions - Little Black Dress is a Boomer Lit mystery/romance/psychological novel. I have a cover done and await final editing.

    1. Ana, neither an email address nor Linked In would work. This is a blog hop event, and authors post short excerpts or snippets of their work each week. You must have a page to send readers to see your work and to link back to this site so that your readers can then go to the next blog and author. An easy way to begin might be to start a blog on a free blog site such as Blogger or Wordpress. You could put up an About page with info about yourself and your book. Use the blog page to post your snippets each week. That's it. Later on, when you have more time or the inclination, you could add additional posts, but there's no requirement to do that.

  4. This is an exciting idea Shelley! What a great way to get those of us without blogs (me..) to create, establish, and begin promoting one in a quick and unique way. I think I get the gist of what is to be done, but what I need clarity on is, can you post from more than one WIP or do you encourage promoting excerpts from the same work each week?

    1. You can publish whatever you want to share. It can be from one or several WIP or published works. Up to you!
